SWAAAC Spring Literacy Training
In this half-day workshop, participants will develop literacy lesson plans and curricula for students with Complex Communication Needs using storybook themes. Participants will adapt books, identify accessible activities and manipulatives, and write objectives that support literacy learning across the 5 areas defined by the National Reading Panel.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will identify a variety of potential language and literacy goals associated with select children’s literature.
2. Participants will demonstrate 3 different methods for adapting storybooks for physical access.
3. Participants will demonstrate 3 different methods to adapt storybooks for engagement, participation, and language learning for students with Complex Communication Needs.
4. Participants will cooperatively develop a language and literacy learning resource guide for a select storybook that will facilitate other service provider’s ability to deliver evidence-based literacy instruction to students with CCN.
5. Participants will create extension activities to further potential language and literacy goals associated with a select text.
