Strong foundational knowledge of coaching principles are essential in shaping instructional practices and effecting behavioral change in the classroom. This workshop will introduce the four support functions of coaching (coach, collaborate, consult, and evaluate) and when to use each strategy. Also on the agenda, Holonomy and the Five States of Mind according to Costa & Garmston and the effect they have on thinking and perspective. The coaching cycle will be discussed, as well as tools to successfully empower others to solve their own problems in order to build strong collaborative environments. If you work with assistive technology in the classroom, you know the importance of coaching others on implementation yet this important skill is rarely taught. Come and learn how you can be a better coach!

Participants will have an opportunity to observe and practice effective use of paraphrasing, and planning and reflective conversation.

Everyone will leave with a plan for implementation and resources to support extended learning.
